TRISTAN MIEDEMA (he/him) is currently a Teaching Artist of Voice in the Theatre Department at Drake University in Des Moines, IA, where he teaches a voice studio of theatre majors and minors. He is also a voice instructor for The Voice Lab based in Chicago, a studio that provides gender affirming voice care.
Miedema graduated from The University of Iowa School of Music with a Master of Arts degree in Voice Performance under Dr. John Muriello in Iowa City, Iowa. Previously he has studied under Dr. Sarah Van Waardhuizen and Professor Mark Babcock at Central College in Pella, Iowa.
His musical career includes experiences in musical theater, ensemble singing, studio vocals, concert work, opera, choral conducting, and show choir. Miedema is currently a Studio Vocal Artist for BMK Arrangements and teaches voice privately.
Miedema is creator of the online educational hub, Teaching Trans Voices, a resource and safe space for teachers and students to “learn more about the trans experience, voice changes, and vocal training to support and encourage life long singing for trans singers.”
Stage credits include Fabrizio Naccarelli in The Light in the Piazza (anticipated April 2021), Lillas Pastia in La Tragédie de Carmen, John Brooke in Little Women, Will Parker in Oklahoma!, and supporting roles in The Wizard of Oz.
Miedema’s concert work includes the Mozart Requiem, Brahms Requiem, and various selections on tours to the East Coast, Colorado, Midwest, Austria, and Germany with the Central College A Cappella Choir and Chamber Singers.
